BP4_Web 2.0 tool week 2

Happy Sunday everyone!  Let me just start off by saying that this week, the selection process was long and difficult.  I really wanted something to use with the teens and teachers at school. I did a search for any tools with book as my search word.

I tried BookMooch.  This is a book swap site.

I tried Book Lamp which is a matching site. It matches readers to styles of books. It is similar to Pandora for music, but for books.

This week, the Web 2.0 tool I chose is called Shelfari.  I am a librarian, and wanted to choose a tool that would enhance the library experience at school.  Many times kids want to know what books they have already read (me too), and can’t remember until they already start reading the book a second time. Shelfari is very user friendly. I will show you some of the screen shots of the process.

I started off by taking the Shelfari tour. This site allows you to discover new books:

Keep track of books that you have already read, as well as rate, review, and recommend them as you wish by building a bookshelf:

See what your friends are reading:

After taking the tour, I decided to go ahead and register. The process is very easy!

Once you are registered, you start building your bookshelf.  You add any books that you are reading:

You add books that you have already read. Don’t forget to rate them if you want to.

I have not added any to the what I want to read next, as I am a little busy right now, and am reading the Sweep series for school (High School) discussions.  You can check out Shelfari if you are looking for a great, colorful, eye-appealing way to keep track of your reading, and what you want to read. I am looking forward to sharing this site with many of my kids and teachers. Have a great day! I hope you get an extra day off tomorrow. We do!!!!!!

  1. Hey Cheryl
I like the idea of an online book reading source that will keep track of books that I have already read, as well as rate, review, and make recommendations. I will be sharing this blog with our Librarian here in Richmond with the hope that she would begin to use it to help learners keep track of what they have read so as to create a bookshelf. I will be linking to your blog for others to read my comments. Thanks!
