Here is my final video. I hope you enjoy watching it. Have a great day everyone!

Here is the link also if you would like to check it out there:

http://www.viddler.com/explore/Ripples/videos/452/

If you liked the video and would like to know what lesson I did with it, just read on for more information.  You will also find my reflection of bumps in the road that I experienced during this to help you out. Enjoy!

Cheryl McGovern:  Relevant and Innovative Learning Scenario

1.     Target Audience:  The students will be from a multi-level, high school drama class.
2.     Materials needed: Computers, Viddler link, previous works created during class for upload, projector.
3.     Objectives:  The students will:
Create a Viddler account.
Analyze their previous works for upload.
Compare Viddler to YouTube in groups and present data.
Evaluate at least 2 other classmates’ uploaded videos, and share comments.
Develop skills to navigate the Viddler tool.
Reflect on feedback and share within groups.
Reflect on this lesson and share if they would like to.
4.     Procedures:
Students will have a walk through the upload process of Viddler with the instructor.
Students will analyze their previous works to decide which one best showcases their personal style.
Students will create their Viddler site.
Students will upload their work to the Viddler site.
Students will comment on at least 2 other classmates’ videos, and offer feedback in a positive way.
Students will be grouped to share comments with each other, and compare the Viddler tool to YouTube.
Students will present their comparisons with the class as a group.
Students will reflect on their learning experience and share if they like.
5.     Web 2.0 Tool:  Viddler
6.     Social Participation/Social Learning:
Students will be participating in a group sharing process, and also sharing comments through the Viddler site.
7.     Making Connections:
So many of our students today are on Facebook and YouTube. They are very comfortable in these environments.  They like to share their thoughts, works, and lives with others. In the educational setting, most sites are blocked, and students miss the sharing and showcasing of their talents at school.  I have tested the Viddler tool, and it is accessible at our school, so I think that this will really be a great way to bring a connection to the students.
8.     Create/Produce:
The students will be sharing their works via the Viddler site.  They will also be sharing feedback.  During a group activity, they will be comparing Viddler to YouTube, and presenting their findings to the class. They will also need to create their own Viddler site.
9.     Reflection:
Upon completion of this activity, students will take time to reflect on their experience, and share with the group if they would like to.

My personal reflection on this project after actually implementing it is that it is a terrific idea.  As with any lesson, there are always a few bumps in the road that are unexpected.  The part I forgot to plan for was the fact that the student’s email can’t be accessed from school.  Once they created their viddler accounts, they needed to confirm through email, so this set us back just a slight amount. The students absolutely loved the site, and couldn’t believe that there was actually a video site out there that could be accessed from school.  They were really excited about being able to continue to use this tool.  I am just waiting for the County to discover this and block this site also. That is a concern for the future that I have about this.  As with anything, there is the chance for misuse.  You just have to be diligent and watch what the students are uploading. Would I do this lesson again? Absolutely. They love being able to view and comment on each other’s projects. I know that I like doing these imovies and commenting much more than typing a paper, or taking an exam.  It also is a better way to showcase what you have learned throughout a course.

PE5_Viddler

Happy Monday fellow Bloggers!! I just wanted to go into a little further detail about my next web 2.0 tool Viddler.  As I previously stated, I am going to be using Viddler in a drama class for them to upload, share, and comment on the videos that they create.  One of the first things after introducing Viddler to them will be to set up a group. Their class will be their group, so it is easy to locate all of them. Here is a screen shot of the create a group page:

After creating our group, we will review how to upload a video:

I will go over how to create a friends/buddy list:

Then I will open the floor to questions. I took a screen shot of the frequently asked questions tab that Viddler has. There are many good questions and answers here. After that, they will begin working on what video to upload and share. I hope you have enjoyed this brief run through of the introduction to this great web 2.0 tool. Have a super night! Stay warm. PE4_Viddler

Welcome back! I have decided to use Viddler as my tool this week. We all have a Viddler account, and I thought it would be neat to share this tool (instead of YouTube) with our drama students who are doing videos all of the time.  When I checked Lynda for tutorials, they didn't have any, so I went to the Viddler site. Here are a couple of screen shots of the main (about) Viddler page, and also of the help screen.

After looking through Viddler, I decided to go to the other site (YouTube) just for grins to see what was out there about Viddler. I am sending out the link to view a video review of Viddler. The star of the video seems to march to the beat of his own tune, but I will tell you this: he knows his technology, and really explains the differences between the two sites well. It is a very informative video, even if it is not very professional. I hope you learn something new from it. I know that I did. Have a great night. Cheryl

BP7_Shelfari commercial

I am sending out this post to let everyone know that I had no trouble at all uploading and processing the last video to the blog, but for some reason (unknown to me), this one will not process. It uploads, then switches to processing and doesn't finish. It has taken me over 3 hours, and still no process. I am going to give it another shot, but if it doesn't come through, I am giving you the viddler link to look at it tonight, and I will try again tomorrow. Maybe blogger will be less bogged down and it will process then. Have a great night. Cheryl

BP4_Web 2.0 tool week 2

Happy Sunday everyone!  Let me just start off by saying that this week, the selection process was long and difficult.  I really wanted something to use with the teens and teachers at school. I did a search for any tools with book as my search word.

I tried BookMooch.  This is a book swap site.

I tried Book Lamp which is a matching site. It matches readers to styles of books. It is similar to Pandora for music, but for books.

This week, the Web 2.0 tool I chose is called Shelfari.  I am a librarian, and wanted to choose a tool that would enhance the library experience at school.  Many times kids want to know what books they have already read (me too), and can’t remember until they already start reading the book a second time. Shelfari is very user friendly. I will show you some of the screen shots of the process.

I started off by taking the Shelfari tour. This site allows you to discover new books:

Keep track of books that you have already read, as well as rate, review, and recommend them as you wish by building a bookshelf:

See what your friends are reading:

After taking the tour, I decided to go ahead and register. The process is very easy!

Once you are registered, you start building your bookshelf.  You add any books that you are reading:

You add books that you have already read. Don’t forget to rate them if you want to.

I have not added any to the what I want to read next, as I am a little busy right now, and am reading the Sweep series for school (High School) discussions.  You can check out Shelfari if you are looking for a great, colorful, eye-appealing way to keep track of your reading, and what you want to read. I am looking forward to sharing this site with many of my kids and teachers. Have a great day! I hope you get an extra day off tomorrow. We do!!!!!!

BP6_Link to Francine's blog

Hello everyone! Happy Saturday! I am betting that most of you will get a three day weekend, and are as thankful for it as I am. I know that online learning sometimes takes away from getting to know your classmates a little better, so I am sending out this link to Francine's blog.  You will be able to see my comment through this link, and I hope you will enjoy getting to know Francine a little better through her video. Her dog is adorable! Enjoy.

PE3_IMovie

Well, today is definately turning out to be a better day for me! I am not quite as in a fog as I have been all week.  For my IMovie project, I really wanted to use still pictures.  I have been meaning to try to put something together as a thank you to the owner of Sew Worth It for the enjoyable quilting retreat they sponsored, so I thought this would be a great time to do that.  Here is the screen shot of my project screen in IMovie:
After completing the project, I then uploaded the project to Viddler for publishing:

I really enjoyed this project, as it was very personal, and I learned a lot. Here is the url link to my viddler site so that you can view the video, or you can view it now:

I hope you enjoy the video. Have a great rest of the weekend! Cheryl

PE2_iMovie

Well, today has been better than this week (thank goodness). I completed my iMovie Lynda tutorials.

I found that as I worked on these tutorials, that chapter 12 and above became a little more difficult for me to comprehend, as I am a beginning IMovie person.  The areas that I did feel I would not mind tackling next would be to use still pictures and beat markers.  I also thought that being able to put the map and dots in was a really neat feature. I also thought that the keywords for a larger family would be wonderful for organizing your videos. Here is a shot of my certificate.
Last, but not least here is the shot of how to embed and copy the url for viewing the certificate. Tomorrow I will be practicing what I learned. I already have an idea. Have a great night.

PE1_iMovie

I have had a really off week this week. First, I missed Wimba. I could have sworn it was supposed to be on Wednesday. I even told other people that I would see them in Wimba on Wednesday. I went to Wimba Wednesday, and waited, wondering why there wasn't anyone there. Talk about feeling silly. I had spent over an hour before that watching the iMovie tutorials, and was ready for Wimba. Then today (Thursday), I started watching the rest of my tutorials on Lynda, and thought I better check the assignment again, as I have been slightly off already. Good thing I did! I didn't realize we needed 3 posts. So hence, my first post today.  Here I am heading off to Lynda.com from my IGoogle ETC page (yes, I am glad we had to do that, as it does make navigation much easier).
Here is the shot of my progress so far. I am finding these tutorials very informative. The last couple of classes that I have had to do an imovie assignment, I have really had to muddle through. I am looking forward to trying out what I am learning. Have a great night, and I will see you tomorrow with another post (if I don't lose anymore brain cells by then)!

BP2_Ge.TT

BP2_Ge.TT

Hi everyone! Welcome to another blog post. This post is going to share my recent experience of looking into a Web 2.0 tool. I must start by telling you that I didn’t even know what a Web 2.0 tool was when I was reading through the assignment. During the time I was researching the project, I also watched the required Wimba video for this week, and the speaker M. Wesch was really explaining the use of these tools in the classroom, and the differences. Very appropriate.
My first stop was the link provided to me:
I searched through many of the available tools. I found that by just holding my pointer over the tool, it would tell me what the tool was used for.  When I went across Ge.TT, and it said that it was a file-sharing tool that was super fast, I was very interested. My team throughout the past 4 months has had some difficulty in this area. When we would try to email projects to each other, or through Google docs, we sometimes had uploading and transfer problems. Remembering these problems truly prompted me to try this particular tool. I didn’t feel that there would be a better tool out there for practical use than this one. I was about to find out! I clicked on the icon, and this is what I saw:

I proceeded to sign up for an account:
You will see the next screen after you have signed up:

After I signed up, I decided to look around and see what tutorials I could find. My first stop was Lynda.com of course:

As you can see, Lynda.com did not have any tutorials for Ge.TT.  I would not be deterred in my endeavor! I then switched searches and went to YouTube:

YouTube offered a few different videos on Ge.TT, and I watched a few. I am including 2 different links for you just in case you are interested in viewing them. They are as follows:

After I watched the videos, I felt confident in giving Ge.TT a real test drive. I logged in and uploaded screen shots:

I must admit that the pictures loaded very quickly, and I easily sent the link to my teammates to check on the reliability of this tool.  It was not long after that I received emails from my teammates telling me that they really liked this tool, and was glad that I had discovered it.  This tool will be invaluable in the sharing of files, and projects as a team. I am extremely pleased with the results! Give it a try if you need this kind of tool! Tune in for future blogs, and in the meantime, have fun! Cheryl

Here are my 4 screen shots of my iGoogle page. The only trouble I had was with the Linked Search gadget. Did anyone else have the same problem, and if so, how did you handle it? Talk to you soon.

BP1_Welcome to my blog

Hi, and welcome to my blog! This is my very first blog experience.  All of the technology used for the assignments at FSO have been new to me.  I am beginning to feel a little more confident in my ability to work with technology. One of the reasons that I chose FSO is because I needed to have the learning experience of technology today. I am looking forward to continuing my learning experiences and getting with the technological world of today.
I recently had the chance to spend 3 days at an Eleanor Burns Quilting Retreat with my mother, and the barn wall quilt you see above was one of the projects that we completed. This was one of the most fun learning experiences I have had. It was extra special, as I got to share this experience with my mother.
One last big learning experience is my CBR.  I have chosen Motivation as my "big idea" for my CBR. I will specifically be looking at attendance to online tutorials from home internet by students in an Algebra class. I always had difficulty with math homework, that is why I have chosen this particular CBR. Here is my CBR site link if any of you are interested. Cheryl McGovern-CBR http://web.me.com/mcgoverc
